An earthquake of 5.4 magnitudes or below is classified as a small earthquake. Small earthquakes produce little to no damage at all, and are not often felt. Although they do not cause much harm or damage small earthquakes are the most frequent ones. Meaning there is twice as many smaller earthquakes than there are bigger ones. Smaller earthquakes usually drop items within buildings or homes but do not cause major damage.
This is an example of a 5.3 earthquake that occurred in Australia. As you can tell there is not much damage produced besides a couple of bottles that have fallen off the store shelves.
